We’re proud to announce that Doctors Imaging has become the first Lung Cancer Screening Center in the New Orleans area designated by the ACR (American College of Radiology). This recognition is only for facilities that have committed to safe & effective diagnostic care for the highest risk individuals.
The American College of Radiology has strict policies and standards for facilities concerning the equipment, qualifications and procedures regarding lung cancer screenings. By having this accreditation, patients can be sure that their lung cancer screenings with us are thorough, meticulous, and the best in the area.
“Our team of highly experienced radiologists and technologists have worked hard to achieve this designation,” stated Dr. Edward Soll. “We are happy to be able to provide top-notch medical imaging to the people in the Greater New Orleans area. Doctors Imaging offers the highest quality services available to benefit the communities we serve and are proud to now be recognized by the American College of Radiology as a certified Lung Cancer Screening Center.
Lung cancer is one of the most aggressive and debilitating forms of cancer. In 2010 alone, 201,144 people were diagnosed with lung cancer. According to the Center for Disease Control, more people in the US die from lung cancer than from any other cancer. Despite the prevalence of anti-smoking organizations and their advertisements, more people are diagnosed every year with this form of cancer.
If you smoke, used to smoke cigarettes or other tobacco products, you are susceptible to lung cancer. The quickest way to prevent the onset of lung cancer is to quit using tobacco products but more than that, taking the right precautionary efforts to make sure that you stay informed about the status of your health
The best way to do this is to have lung cancer screening procedures performed at ACR accredited locations. This elite distinction only goes to facilities, like Doctors Imaging, which have undergone a rigorous assessment of their lung cancer screening protocol and infrastructure. In addition, their follow-up care (such as counseling and smoking cessation programs) must be superb.
Lung cancer screening with low-dose computed tomography scans, with the right follow-up care, significantly reduces lung cancer deaths. CT Scans use the power of computer technology and X-ray to develop images of the internal organs. CTs are non-invasive and the information gleaned is extremely useful to physicians in recommending treatment options to patients.
We are the only ACR accredited lung cancer screening facility on the east bank of New Orleans and we hope that more people will take the time to learn their chances of developing lung cancer and work on quitting habits that cause it. The earlier lung cancer is diagnosed, the better the chances of survival after treatment.
